- We collect what the app needs to work: your email, your display name, and what you do in Study Roomies.
- Your tasks are private. Other roomies only see your name, avatar, status and that you're focusing.
- No ads. We don't sell your information or track you across other apps and websites.
- You can ask us to see, fix or delete your information at any time: privacy@studyroomies.com.
who we are
Study Roomies (“we”, “us”) is an iPhone app for studying and focusing alongside other people. It's based in British Columbia, Canada, and is responsible for your information. Our privacy officer can be reached at privacy@studyroomies.com with any question about this policy.
what we collect
information you give us
- Email address, to create your account and send you sign-in codes. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the email Apple shares with us, which can be a private relay address.
- Display name, and confirmation that you're 13 or older (we don't ask for your birthday).
- Your status, such as “focus” or a short custom status you write.
- Tasks you add to your task list.
- Messages to us, if you email support.
information created as you use the app
- Focus activity: when you start and finish focus sessions, their length, and which room and seat you used. This powers your stats and rewards.
- Coins and items: your coin balance, rewards you've earned, and the avatar items you own or wear.
- Purchases: if you buy something, Apple handles the payment. We receive a record of the purchase (what was bought and when) so we can deliver it. We never see your card details.
- Social activity: friends, invites to your place, people you've blocked, and reports you make or that are made about you.
- Device and app information: a random ID the app creates for your device, your app version, iOS version and language. We use these to keep your sessions working and to fix problems.
what stays on your iPhone
Settings like your music, sounds and timer choices are saved on your device, not on our servers.
photos
If you save a share card, the app asks for permission to add the image to your photo library. It can't see or read your existing photos.
what other roomies can see
Study Roomies is social, so some things are visible to others in the same room or at your place: your display name, avatar and outfit, your status, which seat you're in, and that you're focusing or on a break. Your email and your tasks are never shown to other roomies.
how we use it
- To run the app: sign you in, sync your tasks, seat you in rooms, and show your stats.
- To give you coins, rewards and the items you buy.
- To keep the community safe: handle blocks and reports, and stop abuse, spam and cheating.
- To answer your questions and send important account emails, like sign-in codes.
- To fix bugs and improve Study Roomies.
We don't use your information for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
who helps us
We use a few trusted services to run Study Roomies. They only process your information to provide their service to us:

These services may store information on servers outside your province or country, including in the United States, where it may be accessible under local law. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of roomies or others.
how long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we have to keep something longer for legal, safety or fraud reasons (for example, records of reports or purchases). Copies in backups are removed on their normal schedule.
your choices and rights
- See or fix your information: most of it, like your name and status, you can change in the app. For anything else, email us.
- Delete your account in the app, or by emailing privacy@studyroomies.com from your account's email.
- Get a copy of your information, or ask how it's used.
- Photos: you can turn photo access off anytime in iPhone Settings.
We'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, including Canada and some U.S. states such as California, you may have more rights under local law, and we'll honor them. If you're in Canada and aren't happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
kids
Study Roomies is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
keeping it safe
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls that keep each person's private data (like tasks) visible only to them, and passwordless sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect yours, and we'll tell you and the authorities if a breach puts you at real risk.
changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also let you know in the app or by email.
